Community Cinema for me was this magical place where arts and creativity met with a community of enthusiastic, warm and welcoming people. After I moved to UK in 2014 this became my second home. I volunteered as a programmer at Deptford Cinema in London for many years, organised seasons of immersive screenings, music events, life drawings and art exhibitions. What an extraordinary sense of achievement it was to see the organisation grow from a basement with bean bags and a low-key projector to a proper 40-seat cinema. It is great to see that even now they no longer have a venue they are still alive, still meeting once a week and still organising events for, and with their community
