Our climate action focus group programme is exploring ways that community cinemas can reduce their impact on the climate and become greener cinemas.
Climate action focus group
The project began with an initial meeting with eight community cinemas from around the UK to discuss the biggest challenges the sector is facing in addressing climate change. From there each group made pledges for ideas they would test over the next three months to help build a greener future.
The great progress made so far was fed back at this year’s Community Cinema Conference as part of our Climate Action for Community Cinemas panel, allowing the focus group to discuss what they had been working on, discuss solution and explore how Cinema For All can support and encourage climate action.
What are some ways we can reduce carbon emissions, reduce waste and become greener community cinemas?
- Screen an environmental film and follow with a workshop or discussion on actions we could all take.
- Reduce plastic and single use utensils for concessions.
- Connect with other environmental initiatives in the area such as planting trees or community gardens.
- Bike storage or racks at venues.
- Offer affordable tickets so people can afford to make climate friendly choices in day to day life.
We are looking for new groups to take part in our focus group! The workshops take place online on a bi-monthly basis. If you or your group is interested in taking part, email Ellie at ellie@cinemaforall.org.uk to find out more.
