Episode 1: Danny Leigh in the Abbeydale Picturehouse
We’re so excited to be back for Season 2, where we’re really going to be delving into the magic behind the cinema, sharing cinema memories and sharing our love of the big screen in all forms! This episode we meet with writer and broadcaster Danny Leigh at the Abbeydale Picturehouse in Sheffield to talk through his memories of cinema-going. Jaq and Abi also catch up about what they’ve seen at the cinema over the summer (David Lynch season at HOME, Company: Original Cast Album, Toy Story 4, Jaws).
Episode 2: Abi and Ellie chat to Barry Purves
Abi and Cinema For All team member Ellie Ragdale go to chat with Oscar and BAFTA nominated animation legend, Barry Purves. Barry has worked on significant films such as Mars Attacks!, King Kong, and TV series including The Wind in the Willows and Postman Pat. He has also produced his own acclaimed short films. Jaq and Abi also catch up about what they’ve been watching at the cinema over the past few weeks (Pain and Glory, NT Live: Fleabag, IT Chapter 2, Nicolas Roeg season at Showroom Cinema, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood).
Episode 3: Archival Film Restoration with ITV Content Delivery
Jaq, Abi and Producer Jay head to Leeds to talk to the team at ITV Content Delivery, home of the ITV National Archive. We find out about what’s involved in storing this huge amount of archival film and television content, as well as the process of restoring it for 21st Century viewers. Jaq and Abi also catch up about what they’ve been over the past few weeks (Official Secrets, To Kill A Mockingbird, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, The Little Mermaid, The Farewell, Eyes Without A Face, Les Diaboliques).
Episode 4: Restored Film and Rep Distribution with Park Circus
Abi and Producer Jay head to Glasgow to talk to the Jack Bell at film distribution company Park Circus. We find out about what’s involved in putting out older, restored titles and helping them reach a modern audience. Jaq and Abi also catch up about what they’ve been over the past few weeks (Last Black Man in San Francisco, Charade, Vox Lux, Tully, King of Comedy, Rocks).
Episode 5: It’s a Wonderful Life at Hyde Park Picture House
Abi and Jaq travel to Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds to talk to Wendy Cook. Wendy talks to us about the amazing history of this iconic cinema, as well as the significance of films like It’s a Wonderful Life when it comes to creating a cushion of financial security for Independent Cinemas. Wendy also chats about building audience trust, taking risks and creating cinema memories. An unmissable interview! Jaq and Abi also catch up about what they’ve been watching over the past few weeks (Marriage Story, Good Boys, Charlie’s Angels, Frozen II) as well as sharing their top 5s of 2019 including The Farewell, Seahorse, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Pain & Glory, Happy as Lazzaro and Monos (featuring a special appearance by Producer Jay!).
Episode 6: Chorley – It’s a State of Mind
Abi and Producer Jay travel to Chorley Empire Cinema in Chorley, Lancashire. There, they meet volunteer Estelle Bryers who tells them all about the cinema’s turbulent 110-year history, as well as how important cinemas are to a place like Chorley. Estelle is an extraordinary person whose infectious passion for both community and cinema is inspiring. Jaq and Abi also catch up about which films they’ve been watching recently (Singing’ in the Rain, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Uncut Gems) with a particularly impassioned chat about Little Women.
Episode 7: Awards Season Rundown
Co-hosts Abi and Jaq return to the studio to catch up on awards season and recount their favourite moments from Oscars and BAFTAS past. They also catch up about which films they’ve been watching recently (Birds of Prey, The Lighthouse, Parasite, Mother, Red Joan, The Honeymoon Killers).
