Following the government’s announcement on cinema re-openings, we’d like to share with you the results of our volunteer-led cinema focus groups, which we recently hosted to understand and support community cinemas through their next steps.
A key outcome of these sessions revealed that whilst a small number of groups are planning outdoor screenings or drive-ins over the summer – for the most part, volunteer-led cinemas will not be re-opening their doors until at least September 2020, with very many groups suspending their screenings until January 2021. This document will help you see what other groups are planning, how they have weathered the crisis, and will help you plan your own next steps.
Cinema For All’s advice at this moment is to take your time, talk to your audience, plan carefully and then add an extra layer of precaution to everything you do. There is no rush to get back to screening – film can wait until you are ready and until things are safer. We will be releasing more support and advice for you in the coming months as you start to re-open your doors, and we are already talking to distributors, partners and funders to help influence the bigger picture, and get you the best deals when you reopen. For more on Cinema For All’s next steps, please take a look at the document.
Stay safe, and please get in touch with us to talk through any of your plans or concerns.
