10 years ago, life for William was an adventure - full of friends, family and opportunity. A masters student and aspiring musician, his future was bright. But when a new wireless system installed at his work seems to have an adverse effect on his health, what starts as a bad reaction to his immediate surroundings soon becomes a lifelong battle against the wider environment. Such is the agony of his increasing sensitivity to electricity and radiation, an illness known as 'electrosensitivity', William withdraws to a remote cabin in the Swedish wilderness, the furthest he can get from technology.
Hidden in a foil-encased bedroom, underneath the many layers of copper-lined fabric that shield him from the radiation that makes him sick, William speaks openly to Marie Lidén, a Swedish filmmaker, whose own mother suffered the same illness. Through interviews with William and the few people who visit: his parents, the priest and medical practitioners, Electric Malady is an intimate window into William's isolated world and a moving depiction of a family, devoted to finding a way to save their son's life.
