CHANGES TO THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION

CHANGES TO THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)

Data protection legislation covers everyone about whom you keep personal data. This includes employees, volunteers, service users, members, supporters and donors. You may have recently been made aware of upcoming changes to data protection laws with the General Data Protection Regulation that will come into affect on 25 May 2018. The changes to data protection laws will affect your community cinema’s policy and procedures to how you handle personal data and enact privacy principles. Don’t worry as there is plenty of time to learn about GDPR and what it means for your organisation and there is lots of helpful resources, advice and events available to help guide you through GDPR.

We advise you to visit the ICO’s (Information Commisioner’s Office) website for their guide on GDPR, as well as the NCVO’s (National Council for Voluntary Organisations) website for their tips and advice on data protection and GDPR. The NCVO is also running a number of training events on the subject across the country from the end of February until mid July 2018. You can also get in touch with your local Film Hub to find out if they are running a session offering advice on GDPR.
