Congratulations Shadforth Film Club!

We are pleased to announce that Shadforth Film Club, in the North East of England, is the winner of our recent membership competition, worth over £750 in screenings, freebies and member benefits.  Over the next year, we’ll be helping Shadforth build their profile, supporting them as they expand their programme and sharing their progress. Below, Lara Thompson gives a little background on Shadforth’s history to date.

Films At Shadforth

‘Films first came to Shadforth, near Durham, in 2011 when Shadforth Community Association joined a project led by Durham Area Action Partnership to bring the cinema experience to local communities.  This project ended early 2014 but we didn’t want the films to stop!  Luckily we could still use the equipment, thanks to Active Life @ Coxhoe who house it, and we set up Films At Shadforth Film Club in May 2014.  It has been a real achievement to get the Film Club going.  We have increased the films to at least two a month, with membership fees kept low thanks to being part of Shadforth Community Association so as many people as possible can come and watch films on their doorstep at Shadforth Village Hall.  Our films are usually double bills: first a film aimed at a family audience, to encourage children to get involved, and a second film aimed at more mature viewers.  We have tried to show a wide of range of films and to have some special events, such as a sing-a-long.  We are really excited to win this prize to help us broaden our programme and increase our membership so that we can keep our Film Club going for many years to come!
