‘My first memory of community cinema was visiting the Kinema in the Woods in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire in the very early 90s. I’d only ever been to commercial cinemas or the Broadway in Nottingham before, so seeing a film in a beautiful old sports pavilion in the woods, packed with people was quite a magical experience. What is so special about this sector, which I’ve learned through visiting film societies and community cinemas across the country is, it’s never just about the film; it’s about the welcome you get from the volunteers and the vibrant conversations you have about cinema afterwards that you really remember.’
